NGC Label for San Francisco Circulation Issue Quarters

Posted on 7/1/2012

The San Francisco Mint strikes the first circulation issue quarters since 1976.

On June 21 the US Mint began sales of circulation issue quarters struck at the San Francisco Mint, marking an important milestone for the famous mint. These America the Beautiful quarters are the first Mint State coins to feature the 'S' mintmark since the 1976-S Silver Clad bicentennial quarters. The quarters are also significant as the first circulation issue Copper-Nickel Clad quarters to feature the 'S' mintmark.

The 2012-S America the Beautiful circulation issue quarters will be sold directly by the US Mint in bags and rolls. They will not be distributed through the Federal Reserve to local banks.

To mark this new release NGC has created a special San Francisco label that will be available for the circulation issue 2012-S quarters. Special instructions must be followed in order for coins to receive this label.
