Green on a coin is something none of us wish to find lurking in our collections. Green is the color of both PVC residue and corroding copper. Both types of green can be damaging to the surface of a coin. This particular 1853 half cent was submitted to NCS to remove the offending green.

Luckily for this half cent, the green was safely removed with only minimal effect to the surfaces beneath. While the appearance of this coin before conservation would strike fear in the eyes of many numismatists, the pleasing, even brown tone of the coin after conservation would make this coin a star in any collection. This coin was able to grade well with NGC following the conservation.
