Conservation Showcase: 1953 Half Dollar

A recent example from our conservation laboratory.

Numismatists who follow the modern coin series enjoy white coins. Those coins exhibiting distracting unattractive toning such as this proof 1953 Half Dollar are often seen as something less than a similar coin without such small amounts of unappealing color.

Evaluation determined that this color could be removed and would be a benefit to this coin. Careful conservation revealed a bright beautiful coin. This coin was able to numerically grade with NGC following the conservation work.
