1876 TYPE 2//2 T$1

Variety Diagnostics

This coin has the Type 2 obverse paired with the Type 2 reverse: the banner inscribed LIBERTY ends in two points aimed south, Liberty's right hand has five fingers, and no bud appears within the eagle's left (viewer's right) claw.

This combination of obverse and reverse hubs has been confirmed for currency strikes, but it's doubtful that proofs are known. The obverse photo is of an 1876-S trade dollar.
