The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1929-D is the first D-mint issue in this series produced since 1921. It is also a lower mintage date with slightly more than 1 million coins struck. Nevertheless, Mint State survivors are not particularly rare in an absolute sense, as most probably never entered circulation due to the deleterious economic effects of the Stock Market Crash.
