Description & Analysis

This issue's original mintage of 3 million pieces is the highest among P-mint deliveries in this series. While common enough in circulated grades, the 1877 is a major rarity in the finer Mint State grades. Bowers (1993) estimates that only 4-8 coins are extant at the MS65 level.
