Description & Analysis

Several well-known gold rarities were produced at the Philadelphia mint in 1875 and, among non-gold issues, the Trade dollar from this year is certainly the most difficult to acquire. A relatively small population out of the modest mintage of 218,200 coins has been spared from melting or impairment (cleaning, chopmarks, etc.), and a few dozen mint state pieces apparently survived, including a handful of very choice examples.
