Description & Analysis

After a statistical blip in 1866, the production of silver trimes again plunged to just a few thousand pieces for 1867. Collectors of the time sought only proofs, and these are thus far more common than the once-unwanted currency pieces. For a time this date was cataloged as proof-only, due both to the rarity of Mint State pieces and their tendancy to be prooflike and well struck.
