Description & Analysis

A good many of the 1862 trimes failed to circulate when new, as the suspension of specie payment by banks and the Treasury prompted the hoarding of all gold and silver coins in 1862. This has been a blessing for collectors, as this date is the most common Type 3 survivor in Mint State. As most pieces are reasonably well struck, it is also a good choice for type collectors.
