The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1921 Standing Liberty quarter is an interesting issue that exhibits numerous striking anomalies. The paucity of pieces produced seems to account for the fact that Mint State survivors come better struck than those of most other issues in the series. Whereas many extant Standing Liberty quarters display striking softness through the top of the date, the 1921 exhibits this feature over the bottom of the digits. Finally, both the first and second 1 in the date are slightly different when compared to other issues.
