The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Numerous individual varieties exist for this emission, including those with large mintmarks and 'Huge' mintmarks, according to Larry Briggs and with small, medium, and huge mintmarks according to Walter Breen. This issue is very rare in Mint State despite a production of 1,484,000 coins. Larry Briggs called this a 'complicated year' for die varieties and considers the date to be common in lower circulated grades through VF, scarce in XF and AU grades, and truly rare in any Mint State grade level. In Choice Mint State quality, this is a very rare issue.
