Description & Analysis

From 1875 through 1877, the San Francisco Mint delivered staggering numbers of half dollars to help redress the nation's currency shortage that resulted from the outbreak of the Civil War. With a mintage of 4.5 million pieces, the 1876-S is an understandably common coin in lower grades.
