The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The second year of Carson City half dollar production and an even more difficult issue than its mintage of 159,950 pieces would suggest, especially in lesser worn grades. This is a rare issue in all grades and it becomes quite challenging in About Uncirculated. In Mint State, the 1871-CC half dollar is a great rarity with just three or four known.
