Description & Analysis

Enough 1869 S half dimes were coined to make this issue fairly plentiful across all grades through MS 64. Circulated pieces, however, are seldom found free of problems such as harsh cleaning and damage. A typical grading factor is the removal of solder from the obverse, as this denomination became a fashionable item of jewelry during the 1860s-70s.
