Description & Analysis

Though this issue had a generous mintage, it is a little more scarce than one might expect. The falling price of gold during this time drove silver coins from circulation, as they were worth more than face value as reckoned in gold. Though this resulted in a fair number of Mint State coins from their hoarding as silver bullion, those that entered circulation were subject to exportation and melting.
