Description & Analysis

Despite a generous mintage, it seems that the attrition rate for 1856 O dimes was very high. Examples are slightly scarce across all grades, and ones grading XF and higher are very scarce. A fair number of Mint State pieces have survived, including a smattering of gems.

Three die marriages are known having the Medium O reverse leftover from earlier years. This mintmark size is scarce and commands some premium. With the Large O die marriages there are two repunched dates that are quite pronounced.
