Description & Analysis

This is one of several Philadelphia Mint dimes from the 1840s having a lower than usual mintage. In fact, 1846 has the lowest mintage of any dime from that decade, and it is scarce in all circulated grades and quite rare in Mint State.

Just a single pair of dies was used for currency strikes and a separate pair for proofs, so there are no varieties.
