The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
An exceedingly rare proof double eagle, one of a mere 30 pieces that were originally produced in 1879. Of that number, Akers estimates that only 10 or 11 pieces are extant, while Breen states that only 8-10 pieces survived.
