Description & Analysis

The mintage of nickels rose in 1895 but still reflected reduced economic activity. This date is moderately scarce in the higher circulated grades. The population of Mint State pieces is adequate for filling holes, but most of these coins are of mediocre quality. Incomplete stars and other signs of less than full striking are common.

A single repunched date is known for 1895, but it is quite minor. Persons interested in learning more about these varieties are referred to the book Treasure Hunting Liberty Head Nickels, by Kevin Flynn and Bill Van Note.
