Description & Analysis

This is one of the more challenging dates to find with a full strike. The coin illustrated, despite its incomplete stars and numerous cracks, is actually superior to most Mint State survivors. Gems are elusive for this date, and this is especially true of those having sharp strikes, as this is not necessarily a component of certified grading.

Only one repunched date variety is known for 1890, but it's intriguing enough to be included in The Cherrypickers' Guide and is also recognized by NGC under its VarietyPlus Service.
