The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
With a respectable original mintage of 867,883 pieces and an above average rate of survival, it is little wonder that Mint State survivors of this 1890s P-mint half eagle are strongly favored by advanced type collectors. While the occasional, exceptional collection will display an MS 65 example, the majority of collectors have undoubtedly settled for pieces that grade no finer than MS 64.
