The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Nearly all of the 9,000 examples originally coined immediately entered circulation, and higher grade examples are very scarce. This is the only No Motto half eagle dated 1866, the final year of this design type. Later in the year, the San Francisco Mint produced an additional quantity of 34,920 half eagles from the new dies with the Motto IN GOD WE TRUST
