The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
In the summer of 1996, a small hoard of perhaps a dozen pieces came onto the market. These coins were primarily in the XF 45 to AU 53 range, although a few were graded higher than this. The 1855-O is still a very scarce coin and it is a rarity in properly graded About Uncirculated. There are just one or two Uncirculated pieces known (depending on whether or not one grades this example Mint State...) and there are no rumors of any more on the horizon.
