The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
A very rare date among proof twenties, only a third of the original mintage of 51 pieces is estimated to have survived the past century. The Philadelphia Mint really peaked out in the 1890s in their quality production. Everything seemed to go just right, the coiners perfected the textured 'orange peel' fields and seemed to get the frost on the devices cooked up to the perfect contrast. For these reasons, proof gold from this era is consistently beautiful.
