The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth suggest that most of the mintage was exported or otherwise destroyed, although large quantities of various dates that were formerly exported have been returned to this country in recent years. That is obviously not the case for this particular date. Rather, it is more likely that most or all of the mintage was released into circulation where they were extensively used, as indicated by the number of well worn examples that still exist.
