The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Yearly mintage figures for the Liberty Quarter Eagle failed to top 1 million coins from 1862 through the end of the series in 1907. The 1895 (6,119 pieces produced) is generally regarded as the last of the rare dates (although the 1896-1907 issues are scarce to one degree or another in the finer Mint State grades).
