The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
This popular final year of issue Dahlonega quarter eagle has an original mintage of only 2,244 coins. There are an estimated 120-140 pieces known, with most of these in the XF40 to AU53 grade range. The 1859-D is very rare in Uncirculated with an estimated five or six pieces known.
