The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
This is the fifth rarest Dahlonega quarter eagle in terms of overall rarity but it is actually tied with the 1855-D for honors as the second rarest in higher grades. There are 75 to 85 pieces known, mostly in the Very Fine 25 to Extremely Fine 40 range. An estimated eight to ten AU coins exist with many at the lower range of this grade.
