The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Gold specialists are aware of the scarcity of the 1902 Liberty eagle. Only 82,400 pieces were struck, which is less than 5% of the mintage of its 1901 predecessor. The few gold collectors of the day purchased proofs, while business strikes either circulated or were improperly stored and shipped. Unsurprisingly, the 1902 is rare at the MS64 level.
