The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
A true scarcity in the No Motto series of eagles, both in an absolute sense as well as in terms of condition rarity. Just 10,000 pieces were struck during the height of the Civil War, with perhaps fewer than one percent of those surviving today, most in well circulated grades. When David Akers commented on this issue in his book on tens he wrote, 'When looking for this very rare date, one will have to be satisfied with a well worn example because, to the best of my knowledge, that is all there is.' At the time he also was unaware of the presence of any examples that were better than XF.
