The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1855-O eagle is a rare, underrated issue. There are fewer than 100 pieces known from the original mintage of 18,000 and most survivors are in the Very Fine to Extremely Fine grade range. Approximately a dozen AU pieces are known and just a small number of these grade better than AU 50.
