The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Classic Quarter Eagles and Fives were produced in large numbers, especially when compared to the earlier old-tenor designs, and they are readily available in VF-XF grades. They are occasionally even available in lower Mint State condition as quite a few 1834 examples were saved as curiosities as this was the first year of the type. However, the newness quickly wore off, and MS64 and MS65 pieces are extremely rare.
