Description & Analysis

By the summer of 1923 economic activity had picked up enough that additional nickels were needed for circulation. By year's end the Philadelphia Mint produced a substantial quantity, and this issue is common across most grades. Gems are only a bit elusive, and most display decent strikes and bright luster.

A couple of minor doubled-die obverse varieties are noted in the book by John Wexler, Ron Pope and Kevin Flynn, but these are of interest only to variety specialists.
