The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
To put the low mintage of 650 pieces into perspective, it is nearly the same production as the Octagonal 1915-S Panama-Pacific commemorative that sells for tens of thousands of dollars in Mint State. While the 1909 proof Barber Quarter will never achieve similar popularity, its rarity in high grades is irrefutable.
