Description & Analysis

The population and auction data clearly illustrate the rarity of high-grade 1900 Barber halves. The story is seemingly repeated from year to year: Millions of coins were minted (4.7 million in 1900) at the Philadelphia Mint, but no contemporary collectors saved them, preferring proof examples instead. As a result, some of the rarest Barber halves are those high-grade business strikes from the Philadelphia Mint.
