Description & Analysis

As the NGC Census reveals, the 1939 proof nickel with Reverse of 1940 is very rare. Proofs typically are coined and sold quite early in the new year, and it's likely that only a few dozen were struck with dies taken from the new hub.

Collectors are advised to be on the lookout for this variety, as not everyone in the coin hobby/business is aware of its rarity.
