The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Jeff Garrett: In Choice condition, most examples seen are well struck with satiny surfaces. In the last few decades a few small groups of Mint State examples have appeared on the market. Most seen are in the lower range. There are a few amazing examples known most of which were saved at the time of issue. These include the Eliasberg and Norweb examples. The finest graded is a single MS 68 example at NGC.
