Description & Analysis

Economic Depression dominated the period 1894-96, and this is reflected in the relatively low mintages of nickels during those years. Examples of the 1894 issue are slightly scarce across all grades F 12 and higher. The Mint State population likely includes some resubmissions, as there exists a greater urgency to secure gems of this date than for most others in the series. Like most Liberty Nickels of the 1890s, the typical piece is less than fully struck.

No varieties have been reported for the 1894 nickel, but any such that are found would have to be pretty significant to exceed the premium already attached to this date.
