The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Just 75,955 circulation strike 1890 Double Eagles were produced. Until a few years ago, this was a very rare issue in Uncirculated condition. A few small groups of MS60-62 examples have entered the market, making it relatively easy to obtain a presentable 1890 Double Eagle today. However, it remains rare in MS63 and very rare in any higher grade.
