The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1844-O eagle is usually grouped with the 1842-O and the 1843-O. It is more common than the former and similar in overall rarity to the latter. The 1844-O does not really become scarce until the mid-AU level but it is quite rare in AU 58. There are just three or four known in Mint State as well as a unique proof.
