The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1843-D is the most available quarter eagle from the Dahlonega mint. It is relatively easy to locate in lower grades and only moderately scarce in the lower About Uncirculated grades but it becomes very scarce in AU55 or better. It is very rare and much underrated in Uncirculated with just four or five pieces known.
