Description & Analysis

Although the bulk of Half Dollar production at the New Orleans Mint went into the 1842-O Medium Date (as it is identified in the Guide Book), true Mint State survivors of this issue of 754,000 pieces are far more elusive than either the mintage would suggest or that prices guides indicate in MS60. Availability thins out even more drastically once Gem criteria is reached.
