Description & Analysis

Among Barber quarter issues, only the 1899 has a higher mintage. However, contemporary collectors appear to have ignored the series. It later gained favor when stores began selling coin holders, but by then, only well circulated examples were available. A small number of Mint State pieces were presumably set aside by forward-seeing numismatists, such as Wayte Raymond.
