The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1872-CC is far more available than the 1870-CC and the 1871-CC in terms of overall rarity, but it compares favorably to the 1871-CC in terms of rarity in high grades (i.e., AU 50 and above). It is a strong Rarity-7 in AU with an estimated population of four to six pieces.
