The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
While the first-year 1892-O was likely saved in significant numbers (it is the most common O-mint issue in the Barber Dime series), the second-year 1893-O almost certainly was not. As a result, there are few Gem quality survivors from an original mintage of 1.7 million pieces.
