Description & Analysis

The Philadelphia Mint's output of dimes began to rise beginning in 1868, and this issue is only slightly scarce in lower grades. It becomes much more challenging to locate in grades XF and higher, though even Mint State coins are not as rare as the P-Mint dimes of 1863-67.

Gerry Fortin's website lists a dozen die marriages, each one representing a single usage of their respective dies. Most examples are well struck, the one illustrated being particularly bold. The most desirable variety for currency strikes is F-103, which displaying repunched numerals 18.
