The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The P mintmark was first added to the Dime in 1980. Similar to the 1968, 1970, 1975, and 1983 No S proof Dime issues, a mint worker neglected to punch the mintmark into the working die. While scarce, the 1982 No P is available for a price in middle Mint State grades.
