The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Gem BU survivors of the 1904-S are considerably rarer than those of its similarly dated P-mint counterpart. Still, the '04-S (5.1 million pieces produced) is the most readily obtainable Type Three Double Eagle produced in the San Francisco Mint.. Population: 40 in 65, there is just one finer (10/02).
