The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
The 1890-S is scarcer than the 1888-S and the 1889-S, especially in MS63 and higher grades. In MS64, this is a rare issue.
High grade Type Three San Francisco double eagles were actively promoted during 1999 and 2000 and prices rose substantially. They have currently fallen somewhat and can now be purchased for more reasonable levels. If you have considered putting together a set of high grade coins from this mint, they are not being heavily promoted at the moment and as such are excellent values at current levels.
