The NGC Universal ID is a four digit alphanumeric that groups coins based on a unique combination of date, mintmark, denomination and striking process (MS, PF, or SP). These IDs are a simple organization of all coins prior to variety attribution and grading.
Jeff Garrett: One can only wonder why such a large number of Eagles were coined at the absolute depth of the Depression. This is far and away the most common date in all grades and the standard of reference for the type coin to represent the Indian Head Eagle. Most show typical, strong Philadelphia luster and bold strikes. Preservation ranges through the grading spectrum up to and including MS 67. The auction record for the date is $22,425 for an NGC MS 67 that sold in 2011.
